Jews in the Desert: Be’er Sheva – Arad – Masada
Our journey begins in Be’er Sheva, the city of Abraham, where we’ll visit the ancient mound of Be’er Sheva. This site houses remnants of a 4,000-year-old desert city, including an altar from the patriarchal era. Next, we’ll explore the ancient city of Arad, home to a Jewish temple from the First Temple period. Our final destination for the day is Masada, the fortress where Jews made their last stand for freedom.
I recommend spending one night in the desert, in Bedouin tents or a hotel near Arad, offering a moment for reflection and tranquility.

The amazing story of the Nabataeans in the Negev
We’ll uncover the secrets of newly discovered Nabataean cities, creators of Petra and masters of desert agriculture. Visiting the sacred cities of Avdat and Mamshit along ancient trade routes, both recognized as World Heritage sites, we’ll marvel at ancient pagan temples and learn about their agricultural innovations.
Another night in the desert is suggested, with accommodations available near Mitzpe Ramon for a peaceful retreat.

Eilat, Timna valley, and Neot Smadar
Experience the breathtaking landscapes of southern Israel, from the mountains to the sea. In Eilat, enjoy the Red Sea’s coral reefs and Dolphin Park. Then, venture to Timna Valley, an ancient copper mining site with Egyptian temples, stunning rock formations, and a full-size reconstruction of the Tabernacle.
For accommodation, consider spending a night at the guesthouses in Neot Smadar, a community dedicated to Self examination and art, and visit their Art Temple.

Judean desert and the Dead Sea
A sanctuary for prophets, sages, and mystics, the Judean Desert near the Dead Sea has been a place of spiritual renewal for millennia. Our tour includes Qumran, home of the Essenes; the baptism site on the Jordan River; and the Monastery of Gerasimus, along with other desert monasteries in Wadi Qelt, exploring the meditation tradition of Hesychasm.
Afternoon plans include a bath and lunch by the Dead Sea, followed by a climb to the cliffs for silent desert contemplation. Time permitting, we’ll visit the tomb of Prophet Moses, a site revered by Muslims and Sufi mystics.
