Via Palma pilgrimage 4 The Divine

Via Palma is the historic pilgrimage route from Acre to Jerusalem, traversed by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims during the Middle Ages, akin to the Santiago pilgrimage route. This journey, taking about 10-12 days, is segmented into three distinct parts, each with its unique character.

The fourth segment of Via Palma encompasses Jerusalem and its surrounding areas, spanning four days. This includes two days dedicated to exploring Jerusalem and two days of walking through the Judean Desert towards the baptism site in the Jordan River.

Description

The Fourth and Final Week of the Via Plama Pilgrimage: The Divine Part

Day 1: In Jerusalem

Our gathering point is Jerusalem, from where we embark on foot to explore the Christian sacred sites on Mount Zion and the Mount of Olives, including the locations of the Last Supper, Dormition Abbey, Gethsemane, Mary’s Tomb, the Ascension site, and others. Entering the Old City from the east, we’ll visit the St. Anna complex, then proceed along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Here, we’ll delve into the allegorical meanings within the Christian narrative and admire the artwork of Berluzzi among others. Overnight accommodation is arranged in the Old City.

Day 2: Around Jerusalem

The day begins with a return to the Holy Sepulchre and exploration of the Christian Quarter. We’ll uncover the mysteries of the Sword, the Spear of Destiny, and the Holy Grail, followed by visits to the St. Etienne complex outside the Old City and the Armenian Church of St. James within. In the afternoon, we’ll venture to the Mar Elias Church on Hebron Road for a distant view of Bethlehem, and time permitting, to the Monastery of the Cross. Accommodation again in the Old City.
