Via Palma pilgrimage 2 The Soul

Via Palma is the historic pilgrimage route from Acre to Jerusalem, traversed by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims during the Middle Ages, akin to the Santiago pilgrimage route. This journey, spanning about 10-12 days, is segmented into three distinct parts, each characterized by its unique essence.

The second segment, known as the “Soul Part,” follows the breathtaking coastline of the Land of Israel, stretching from the Atlit fortress to Jaffa. Embodying the essence of the soul through its connection with water, this part captivates pilgrims with stunning views of imposing cliffs and the vast expanse of blue sea. This leg of the journey takes approximately 4 days, offering a profound experience of natural beauty and spiritual reflection.

The Second Week of the Via Palma Pilgrimage: The Soul Part

Day 1: Tirat Carmel to Dor

The week begins with our arrival by car or train at the Carmel Beach Train Station, from where we’ll take a taxi or bus to Tirat Carmel to start our journey. We’ll walk along the picturesque beach to the Atlit Citadel, a Templar stronghold, we will explore the nearby Datura Citadel and beach sites, and then proceed to Dor Beach. Here, we’ll acquaint ourselves with the bays and the ancient city of Dor, spending the night in a resort village with an opportunity for sea swimming. The day ends with an evening lecture on the Templar Order.

Day 2: Dor to Olga

Departing from Dor, our path continues southward along the stunning Israeli coastline, reaching the beach area of Kibbutz Maagan Michael and observing the islands off the coast. Our journey takes us next to the port of Gisar a Zarka and Nahal Taninim, leading to a mid-day arrival in Caesarea, a key Roman, Byzantine and Crusader city. After exploring Caesarea’s impressive ruins, we’ll head south to the Hadera Power Station and the Givat Olga Neighborhood for our overnight stay, accompanied by an evening lecture on heraldry and the symbolism of knights.
