Description

Sufism is a mystical path, and the essence of it is the ancient wisdom of the heart and the way of love. It’s finding the truth at the base of everything within oneself, it’s a journey of longing, and union. The Whirling Dervishes dance symbolizes and represents the unity of man with creation. It is a movement in which we dissolve into a world that cannot be understood by the mind, but can be felt through the heart. The journey is a deep immersion into our inner world, a search and exploration of love and wisdom that we all carry in our being. Come – whoever you are.

This tour delves into the holy sites of the Mevlevi Order (Whirling Dervishes) in Konya, Turkey. Guests will have the unique opportunity to be hosted by the Dervishes, engage in Zikr ceremonies, learn the sacred dance of the Whirling Dervishes, and visit both sacred and fascinating locations in the Konya region, including Çatalhöyük, known for its Goddess Culture, among other significant sites.

Itinerary

Day One – Konya and the Sufi Tradition

Upon arrival in Konya, you’ll be greeted at the airport and taken for an initial tour of the central area of Konya. The day includes a visit to the Dervish House Center, where you’ll experience Sufi music, dance, and Sohbet (deep conversation). Your night will be spent in Konya, staying at a 4-star hotel.

Day Two – Shams and Rumi

The day begins with a visit to the Tomb of Shams Tabrizi, Rumi’s “Dost” or soul mate. Rumi suggested visiting Shams’ tomb first, symbolizing the deep connection between them. Next, we’ll explore the “Kaaba of the Heart” – the museum and global center for the Whirling Dervishes, featuring a stunning complex that includes Rumi’s tomb. In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to meet locals, learn the basics of the sacred dance (suitable for everyone), and in the evening, either witness a performance by the Whirling Dervishes or participate in a Zikr ceremony.

Day Three – The Whirling Dervishes Order

This day is dedicated to exploring more sacred sites in Konya, including the ancient hill, madrassas, the Bayram area, and a stone-hewn city in the nearby mountains. The afternoon will offer another chance to meet with locals, practice the Whirling Dance, and delve into Sufi philosophy.

Day Four – Goddess Culture at Çatalhöyük

In the morning, we travel to Çatalhöyük, a significant ancient Goddess Culture site, to visit the restored settlement, museum, and houses. Returning to Konya in the afternoon, we’ll engage in further practice and lessons on the Dervishes’ dance and spirituality. The evening features participation in a different kind of Zikr ceremony with another Sufi group.

Day Five – Return to the Kaaba of the Heart

We revisit the Kaaba of the Heart – Rumi’s Tomb in Konya, including a meeting with a Sufi healer and a final practice session of the Whirling Dervishes’ dance. Around noon, we’ll explore the vibrant Konya markets before a final gathering at the Whirling Dervishes Brothers Center. The journey concludes with your departure, carrying with you the spiritual insights and memories of this profound experience.
